When users open an item in SystemWeaver, if a default setting has been configured for the item's item type, it will be applied to the structure tree view that is displayed. The view setting that is set will be applicable to all items of the same item type as the top item in the structure tree. Architects have the option of setting and saving these default tree views for site-wide use. Any view that is defined and saved will be immediately available to all users of the SystemWeaver server. This article describes how to work with tree view settings.

Note: If no default or other tree settings are configured, no part types will be displayed.

Prerequisites

The options for working with site-wide structure tree settings can be found in the Edit drop-down menu:

Note: End-users can also make changes on-the-fly to a default view setting, however, they cannot save their changes.

Switching On and Off Parts

As described in Get Acquainted With the Explorer Interface, view settings are changed by selecting an item, right-clicking and selecting View from the context menu.

If you want to select more than one part type at the same time, right-click on an item in the structure tree and left-click on View. The Select part types dialog will appear and you can multi-select or multi-deselect by using the provided checkboxes.

Creating a New View

To create a new site-wide default view, there are two options.

New View

  1. Using the right-click View context menu, make changes to the structure tree view until you have set it up as desired.
  2. When you are ready to save your settings as a new view, select New View from the Edit drop-down. The New Config Item dialog will display.
  3. Enter a name for the new view and click OK. The view will display.

Save Active Settings to a New View

This option makes it easy to create a new view based off of an existing view.

  1. Select the view that you want to use as a starting point for your new view.
  2. Make changes to the view until you have set it up as desired.
  3. When you are ready to save your modified settings as a new view, select Save Active Settings to a New View from the Edit drop-down. The New Config Item dialog will display.
  4. Enter a name for the new view and click OK. The view will display.

Modifying an Existing View

It is possible to make modifications to an existing view setting.

  1. Select the view that you want to update
  2. To save the changes, select the Save active settings to current view option from the Edit drop-down.

As a rule, do not include Description References and References in a default view as doing so can result in an extremely long load time for the structure and, potentially, an Out of Memory message.

Delete an Existing View

  1. To delete a view, activate the view that you want to delete so that its name is displayed to the left of the Edit menu drop-down:

  2. Select the Delete current view option from the Edit drop-down.
  3. Click OK to confirm the deletion. The view is marked as deleted.

Structure Tree Part-Type Graph

Select this option to display a graph view of the selected structure tree. This can be especially useful for verifying which parts are "turned on" in a tree default setting.

The structure tree above has been expanded and the part SIDs viewable are COMPS, REC and SEND. The part-type graph for the above tree would display as:

Solid connectors indicate parts currently viewable or "turned on" in the tree.

Dotted lines indicate inheritance.

Note that the graph does not indicate if a part is deprecated.
