This article describes some error messages related to items and parts and provides suggestions for how to resolve them.


I am getting an error when trying to add a part. 


Example Error Message

Invalid ref object in part. 


Resolution

Contact your system's SystemWeaver Architect as this is an indication that there a problem with the part's RefObj in the meta model.

I am getting "Access Denied" when I try to complete an operation.


Error message

Access Denied:

on part: Front Seat Heating(x150000000C0AF301) of type Realizes Generic Function in item: S-46-01 Front Seat Heating(x040000000C0AF2FE) of type Sub Function.


Resolution

The message "Access denied" means that the operation you tried to do was not accepted by the SystemWeaver server, due to some access constraint. The situation usually happens in an operation where the application cannot figure out exactly what was wrong with the requested operation. To solve this problem, investigate your access right to the involved item(s), for example in the Overview view. Make sure that the Access status is Read/Write and that the item is not Frozen or Released.


If the item is in Work status, it might be the case that you do not have write rights to the item, according to the Library used for managing access rights of the item.


Error message 

Example

Access Denied:

You do not have write access in library 'XXXX'.


Resolution

The error message indicates that you don't have the needed access to the library to perform the operation. Contact your SystemWeaver administrator or the owner of the library directly, who should be able to provide you access if authorized.

I am getting getting an invalid character error when searching for items.


Error message 

Example: 

hexadecimal value 0x1D, is an invalid character.


Resolution

The message indicates that there is an invalid character in the search criteria. 


Looking up 1D in an ANSI table: 


This can sometimes happen when copying text from another application/source. You can paste your search criteria into a notepad application, e.g., Notepad++ to view the characters and remove them. 

I am getting 'Cannot remove object' when trying to delete a part.


Error message 

Example: 

The part: x15000000.... cannot be removed. It is referenced by other parts in the following items:

  'Requirement1(2)' partID: x150000000000.....


Resolution

In some cases a part may make a reference to another part, as a DefObj, or RefObj reference. In order to remove the reference to your selected part, the referencing part must be removed first. You can identify and remove such Part references using the References view. Example: 

Or, you can remove the Part reference directly from the Description.
