This article describes how item and part attributes can be edited via the Overview and/or Attributes views.
How you edit an attribute value depends on the attribute type. Use the method provided, e.g., a text box, a drop-down list, a browse button, etc.
A text box is used for values that can be entered through the keyboard, like string and integer values. The text box supports common string operations like copy, paste, etc.
Drop-down boxes are used for enumeration values. To set a value, you can either use the drop-down menu, or begin manually entering a valid value in the box to find it in the list.
More complex attribute values require the use of dedicated editors. You open the editor by double-clicking on the button to the right of the box.
The width used for any of the attribute fields is configured in the meta model by the Architect. Likewise, rules can be defined for an attribute, e.g., a value is required, a string value must conform to a regular expression rule. If your entered value is not acceptable, a warning indicator will appear.
For part attributes in the Attributes view, unacceptable values will instead be indicated with a red cell:
Changes to an item attribute or to an attribute on one of an item's parts will update the Last Changed date of the item.
Note: Values cannot be changed for Computed attributes. |
Editing Attribute Values in Configured Grids
Most attributes can also be made editable in configured grids and you enter values in the same way as described above. If you enter a value in a configured view that does not follow a rule, placing your cursor over the warning icon may display more information about why the value is invalid.
