This article describes how to add an open attachments to items.
Prerequisites
- You must have "Write" access rights to add an attachment
- The server installation is configured with a file repository
Adding an Attachment
You can add an attachment to an item in the following two ways when you are in the Attachments view:
Use Attach File Button
- Click on
to open the Windows Open file dialog where you select the file to attach and click Open.
- Enter an optional comment for the attachment upload in the Add comment dialog.
Drag and Drop
- Drag a file from Windows Explorer and drop it on the view page.
- You will get a confirmation message before the file is actually attached. Click Add Files.:
- Enter an optional comment for the attachment upload in the Add comment dialog.
Tip: If you want to attach an email from MS Outlook, you must first store the email as a file, and then store the file as an attachment. An easy way to do this is to select the email in Outlook, then drag&drop the email into a Windows folder (like your Desktop). You can then drag&drop the file into swExplorer.
Opening an Attachment
You can open an attachment by double-clicking on the line of the attachment in the Attachments view.
You can also right-click on an attachment and select Open Attachment.
The file will then be opened by the application registered for the file type.
Note: Certain files types cannot be opened, e.g., .exe, .bat, .ps1. These files must be downloaded. |
An alternative to directly opening the file is to download the file to a Windows folder and then opening the document in Windows.
