Additional attributes can be added on-the-fly by users and, as such, are not an official part of the system's meta model. All additional attributes are viewable by all system users.

Note: Additional attributes can be created for exceptional uses, but they is not recommended unless they are formally incorporated into the model. Otherwise, views and reports that are not aware of their use will ignore the attribute value causing them to go unnoticed in, for example, the creation of a report. Consult with your system's Architect if needed.

Adding Additional Item Attributes

Additional item attributes can be added using the Overview or Attributes view.

To add an attribute, right-click in the Attributes section and select Add attributes..

The Select attribute type dialog will display. You can select among all attribute types defined in the meta model that are not yet used for the item.

Select the attribute(s) and click OK to add them.

An Additional item attribute will always display even if you do not assign a value, i.e., the values is null.

Adding Additional Part Attributes

If the selected item has parts, additional part attributes can be added to a part type using the Attributes view. To add an additional part attribute, right-click in the Part Attributes area for the part type, in this example "Signal", and select the Add attribute columns option.

The Select attribute type dialog will display. You can then select among all attribute types defined in the meta model that are not yet used for the part. When the attribute column is visible, you can enter the attribute values in the same way as for item attributes.

Note: In the event that there are no part attribute values for an additional part attribute, the attribute column will be removed when you leave the view.
