Just like for issues, it is possible to create description templates for items. A description template is tied to an item type in the meta model. Users have the option to choose a template or not, when they create a new item of that type. In the case of templates for items, many Architects find that not only are they useful for guiding users in formatting data, they also work well as way to provide information to users which can then be deleted from the item. This article describes how to create templates for items.

Prerequisites

  • An installation of the SystemWeaver Architect client (swArchitect)
  • Assignment of the SW Architect role in the database
  • The Description templates meta data is installed. This will add the required config item "Description template" (JDRT).

To get started, log in using the swArchitect client and search for the item or part in the item type structure tree for which you want to create a template. Select the item and navigate to the Description Template tab.

Any existing templates will be listed in the Templates pane to the left.

To create a template, click Add template.

Enter a template name in the New Template dialog and click OK

Next, begin formatting the template in the Template area provided to the right. To access all available formatting tools, double-click in the area to open the editor

Your changes are automatically saved in the embedded editor. If using the pop-up editor, save your changes when closing. The template is now available for users when they create a new item of that type.

Examples

In this example, a "Requirement (Basic)" template includes information about printing. If a user selects to load this template, they can simply remove the text in the template and begin their work.

Here, the users are provided with a table for entering information for Test Case items.

Note: Description templates are for convenience, and a user may choose to delete or modify any of the template content in their item.

To stop offering a template, click Remove template to delete the selected template.
